Our Growing Boys

So in case you can't tell, blogging is NOT one of my greatest strengths... (my sister on the other hand is terrific at it, so if you want to see pictures from david and nicole's wedding & reception and some of the fun we had while she was down...check her blog out.) At some point I hope to get good enough at this that I can use it as a family journal and make a book out of it...but currently that isn't going so well...
I do however want to make sure I document a few of my kids milestones... so here goes:

Kayden: 9-months-old
This little boy is so dang funny. He is really developing his own personality and cracks me up all day long. He started taking steps at 8 months and is now Walking EVERYWHERE! He thinks he's so grown up and throws the biggest fits when I try to carry him somewhere cause we're in a hurry or I don't want him falling. He's a big boy and he knows it. He's definitely had his share of bumps and bruises, but gratefully seems to be sailing pretty smoothly these days. Well, except last week when he slipped on the kitchen floor and landed on his face. Ended up with his very first bloody nose, which was possibly one of the saddest things I've ever seen. I almost started crying too. (I know, apparently I haven't been a mom long enough if that's been one of our most traumatic moments thus far)

Anyways, he also FINALLY cut his first Two Teeth. The first at 8 1/2 months and the second a few weeks later. He LOVES his teeth mostly because it means he gets to be more independent and eat lots of tasty things without having to patiently wait for mom to spoon them into his mouth. He's no longer the biggest fan of baby food, he'd rather eat grown up stuff, but will take what he can get. At this point he still has NEVER turned down any sort of food. Green beans, bell peppers and chocolate alike.

Having a 2-year-old for a big brother has also made this kid pretty tough; he has to be pretty darn tired for much of anything to make him cry. I love that they have this "brother bond" where all they have to do is look at each other and they both start giggling. Kayden loves wrestling and playing with his brother (and Dad) and has recently started following Justin around determined to do whatever he's doing or play with whatever he's playing with.

Justin, 2 1/2 years-old
Love this boy.
Almost every morning Jason and I comment on how he's growing into such a big kid. Half the time I feel like I put my baby boy to bed and am woken up by this big kid that's taken his place.

This boy  loves to play. What are some of his favorite things to do?
Anything outside: blowing bubbles, playing in the dirt, swinging and sliding, "playing" tennis and soccer, exploring in the truck, watering the vegetables, helping mom pull weeds, picking flowers, riding on dad's bicycle, jumping in puddles, smashing nuts with a hammer, and playing with his cousins Karly and Ky.
Anything artistic: painting pictures, drawing shapes, coloring ANYTHING, tracing letters, playing with play dough and clay, making things with pipe cleaners,  cutting paper, using glue, making baking soda volcano's,and anything else he can convince mom to do with him.
Anything mom does: he LOVES to help cook anything and everything (including sticking random toys in pans and sneaking them into the oven), wiping up messes, sweeping, vaccuming, likes sneaking into mom's makeup, stepping on the scale (poor kid), loading the dishwasher (he randomly started putting his dishes in it when he finishes eating, super cute!) and
Being a Big Brother: Justin's getting to be really good with Kayden (recently :). I don't think he's shoved him in at least a week and a half... and he's getting really good at sharing all his toys and saying sorry if he makes him cry. He's my little Kayden monitor, anytime he starts to cry he runs to let me know that I need to get him up. He loves going into his room to get him up in the morning or after a nap, and is really good to bring me a diaper or pacifier when I need it. He loves making his little brother laugh (which isn't too hard) and likes to tickle him and make silly noises and faces.
He's also finally talking more. Talking has never been much of a priority for this kid. If he can get his point across with one word or gesture, why use more right? If he's in the right mood, he can repeat most of the words I say (leaving out a few consonants), and his hearing seems to be fine, he just doesn't like to talk. Just in the last couple of weeks he's gotten really good at saying his prayers and has started using 3-4 words to ask for things (though he still needs a lot of prompting).
Sound effects for his cars, toys, painting and playing must fall into a different category though cause he's terrific at those. The other day he was painting and I asked him what it was a picture of. With the paintbrush in his hand he starts to make car noise "vroom vroom' and pretends he's driving a speedy race car.
