Snow Days

So living in Antarctica does have a few perks during the winter. One of them being no shortages of snow. We attempted to play in it a few weeks ago, but it was so powdery you couldn't even make a decent snowball. This last week though we were blessed with some wonderfully wet snow and finally decided to put it to good use. Jason's sister Cassie came over and after bundling Justin up in his snow suit we put him in his car seat and headed across the street to our gorgeous Porter Park.
We piled up a bunch of snow and dug a tunnel into it. They call it a "QUINZHEE" or so I was told by a Canadian friend. (:

We've loved having Cassie here this semester. Justin gets so excited when she comes over. He just lays on her lap and giggles his head off at her funny faces and noises. If you look behind them you'll see our 8 foot tall snow man. It was a monster to put together, but way cute!

I'm actually amazed at how well Justin does when we go play in the snow. He's not usually the biggest fan of his car seat, but we bundle him up and let him sit in his car seat on the snow and he either falls asleep or looks in awe at the big wide world that he rarely gets to see.
He really wasn't sure how he felt about sitting on top of our quinzhee for a photo op, but I couldn't resist. He was so cute in his little snow suit.

I can't say I don't miss Arizona's warm winters, (I think I'll always be an Arizona Girl at heart) but there's I CAN say that I have learned to love this frozen winter land that we've found ourselves in the middle of. I'm appreciating more and more the beauty that snow brings to the sleeping winter world. When I actually take time to stop complaining about how cold and inconvenient snow can be, it never ceases to amaze me with its ability to make the world look so heavenly and alive. So I can now truelly say, I am thankful for snow. (:
